Wheel of Compassion

A Contemporary Participatory Public Art Movement

A participatory public art movement promoting compassion, unity, reconciliation and religious harmony — one spin at a time.

Who We Are

Introduction

The Wheel of compassion is a participatory public art initiative inspired by the traditional Tibetan prayer wheel. It is both a symbol and an experience; A simple reminder of the values that connect us all as human beings.

Beginning in Dharamshala, India, the spiritual heart of the project, and Calgary, Canada; where the vision first took shape. The Wheel is envisioned to grow into a global symbol of compassion and peace, carried forward by community-led movements around the world.

Vision

To create a lasting, universal symbol of world peace, unity, reconciliation and the oneness of humanity ; rooted in the shared value of compassion.

At its heart, this project promotes compassion and fosters religious harmony, one community and one act of awareness at a time. A small but lasting contribution toward a safer, more just world.

Purpose

This project is dedicated to two of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s four principal lifelong commitments:

1.The promotion of universal human values such as compassion

Fostering a happier, more peaceful world grounded in the understanding that we are, fundamentally, one human family.

2.The promotion of harmony among the world’s diverse religious traditions

Emphasizing the shared tenets of love, compassion, tolerance, and contentment found in every faith.

We hope to receive His Holiness’s blessing before he turns 91, marking the close of his 90th year, which the Tibetan community has designated the Year of Compassion. This will be our official starting point, planting a seed in honour of his enduring contributions to humanity.

Across traditions and generations, compassion remains our common ground.
